The shootout queen

NRL opponents recognize Elise Crocker of the Winnipeg Prairie Fie as a strong goaltender between the pipes. Several teams have also learned that Elise is the Shootout Queen. Strong shootout play by Elise and opportune scoring by her team mates has made Prairie Fire a force in shootouts.

Over the last two seasons, Elise has found herself staring at the best shooters on other teams as they prepare for a shoot out. In 2008-2090 as an AP, Elise participated in four shootouts – two against Manitoba Jets, one each against Calgary Rath and Saskatoon Wild. Elise came come the victor in each case. This included the final game of the season against Rath which ensured the third Western spot in Charlottetown for Prairie Fire. During this season, Elise has found herself in four more shootouts. She emerged victorious in two against Saskatoon Wild and one against Calgary Rath. The lone blemish was a shootout loss to WAM in Edmonton in November.

Elise’s success comes as no surprise to those who have watched her over the last few years. She backstopped her Manitoba Belle team to silver in the 2008 Nationals. She also was recognized as the first team Belle all-star goalie. This past August Elise provided strong goaltending for Team Canada West in the Czech Republic during the U 19 World Championships.

The Prairie Fire team is counting on a continued strong performance from Elise to help them return to the league championship dance.
